From Bell to Bell Put Away Your Cell

CM 201-U has updated its Acceptable Cell Phone Use Policy* to reflect the rule: "From Bell to Bell Put Away Your Cell". This updated policy allows students to possess electronic devices while on school properties but must have them powered off and out of sight during regular school hours.

Student MAY use their devices:

  • Before school, after school, and at school functions
  • During lunch period (when allowed by school administration)
  • If the device is provided in a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • In an emergency situation that threatens the safety of students, staff, or other individuals

Students MAY NOT user their devices:

  • When classes are in session
  • In bathrooms or locker rooms
  • In the hallways between classes

The recording of other students or teachers without expressed permission is strictly prohibited**

*Students are not permitted the use of a cellular telephone, video recording device, personal digital assistant (PDA), or other electronic devices, including but not limited to: the wearing of In-EarMonitor(IEM)/Intra-Concha devices, behind-the-neck devices, over-the-ear devices, on-the-ear devices, wireless/cordless devices, clip-on devices, and devices used to sync by Bluetooth during student attendance days during those periods when classes are in session (start of school to the end of school) as this is a disruption the educational environment.

**The recording of others without permission, creating, sending, sharing, viewing, receiving, or possessing an indecent visual depiction of oneself or another person through a computer, electronic communication device, or cellular phone is in violation of the rights of others and is also not permitted in any manner. This includes using the device to take photographs in locker rooms or bathrooms, or to cheat, which are all direct violations of the student conduct rules.
