Strategic Planning Committee members working together“Perceptions are powerful,” CEC facilitator Perry Soldwedel told the group of nearly 60 at this week’s Strategic Planning Data Retreat. On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, staff, students, community and parents convened at the District Office for information gathering and data sharing as members of the District’s strategic planning committee. The morning began with a discussion about how the school district is viewed and existing perceptions of CM 201-U schools. The afternoon consisted of a number of breakout sessions, facilitated by district administration, related to finance, human resources, school safety, and curriculum. “It was a wonderful day of learning for everyone involved and based on the feedback that I have received so far, created a foundation for future conversation and a renewed commitment from our stakeholders,” said district superintendent Dr. Kara Coglianese. The purpose of the Data Retreat is to answer the question, "Where are we now?"

The purpose of the retreat is to help the strategic planning team develop a shared understanding of the current situation of the district as identified through data. The planned outcome of the day was to paint a clear data picture of the district so that the strategic planning team can identify what is working well (STRENGTHS), what is not working well (WEAKNESSES), what are possible areas of need (OPPORTUNITIES), and what are potential impacts (THREATS), which is commonly referred to as a SWOT analysis.

The next stage of the planning will take place on May 8, 2019, at what is called the Vision Retreat, the result of which will answer the question, “Where do we want to be?” If you would like more information about the District’s Strategic Planning process, please visit our Strategic Planning page.
