Excessive Heat Plan

Excessive Heat Plan

Crete-Monee School District 201-U is committed to protecting the health and safety of our students and staff when the weather is exceptionally warm. The District will implement a plan to provide a decision-making structure for closure of non-air conditioned schools.

Temperatures indoors can sometimes exceed the outdoor temperature. Five schools (Early Learning Center, Monee Elementary School, Talala Elementary, Crete-Monee Middle School, and Crete-Monee High School) are outfitted and completely air-conditioned. For these schools, the indoor temperature allows students and staff to remain in the normally scheduled classroom space.

For those schools not fully equipped with air-conditioning in every classroom (Balmoral Elementary School, Crete Elementary School, Coretta Scott King Magnet School, and Monee Education Center), there may be days when the indoor temperature is excessive and students will need to stay home to receive instruction from their teacher remotely. If this occurs, the District will announce an Excessive Heat Day for buildings not fully air-conditioned by 12:00 p.m. at least 24 hours prior via the School Messenger phone notification system. Please be sure to update your phone numbers in Skyward.

It is important to note that any parent who feels their child is particularly susceptible to health issues brought on by excessive heat in non-air-conditioned schools may keep their child at home. Instances such as these will result in an excused absence.

In preparation for an Excessive Heat Day school closure, the following grades will now be required to take Chromebooks home at the conclusion of each school day:

  • ALL 1st-5th Grade Students
  • Monee Education Center (all students)

Instructions on how to access curriculum will be posted to the students' school websites. Kindergarten students do not need to transport devices as they will receive instructional paper packets.
