• Plaintiffs challenged the election of school board members at large (rather than by district) as a violation of the VOTING RIGHTS ACT
• Closing of Deer Creek Junior High School (currently Crete-Monee Middle School) located in University Park, while keeping open the Hubbard Trail Junior High School located in Crete
• One way bussing of African-American students from University Park to attain racial integration of elementary schools in predominantly white communities
