Overview
Students need to attend school daily to succeed. According to research, achievement, especially in math, is very sensitive to a child’s attendance record. Attendance also strongly affects test scores and graduation and dropout rates. The Compulsory Attendance law states that whoever has custody of or control of any child between the ages of 7 and 17  or (between the ages 6 before September 1)  must send the child to a public/private school on a regular basis. The Office of Truancy seeks to support students and families through interventions intended to help improve student attendance, to account for all District students and comply with Illinois Truancy Laws.
