On Saturday, August 17, 2019, CM 201-U school board members celebrated the start of the new school year at the University Park Back-to-School Community Celebration. Parade festivities included live entertainment, games, rides, food, an arts & crafts show, and exhibit booths sponsored by local businesses and organizations. "We had such a great time celebrating with our families in University Park. It was a wonderful community effort," said Board President Nelson Albrecht. Board members, dressed in "FutureReady" gear, joined the parade route as they greeted students and families. Appreciation for their participation was expressed by University Park residents at this week's board meeting. "I want to say thank you to the board for participating in the parade. Through your investment of time, energy, and resources, our youth and community saw a concerted effort to increase and strengthen our relationship with board leaders," said UP resident and parade organizer Star Lawson. Mrs. Lawson's son, Elijah, was also an event organizer. "Thank you all. This was a great step toward bridging our communities together," said resident Cynthia Hudson.
