The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and the district has taken several steps to ensure schools are safe learning environments.
Starting with the 2022-2023 school year, students in 2nd grade through 12th grade will be required to use clear plastic backpacks. Purses may be used to carry personal items, but only purses that are small enough to fit into the clear plastic backpacks will be permitted.
We acknowledge that clear plastic backpacks alone will not eliminate safety concerns. This is merely one of several steps in the district’s comprehensive plan to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The district has purchased and will distribute a free clear plastic backpack to all 2nd - 12th grade students for the 2022-2023 school year. Students are permitted to carry clear plastic backpacks that are store-bought. Colored plastic and mesh backpacks are not permitted.
Our clear plastic backpack requirement begins on the very first day of school. All backpacks not meeting the criteria outlined above will be collected and kept in the school office, where the students can retrieve the backpack at the end of the day.
