Students pose for Black HIstory Month

Crete-Monee School District 201-U celebrated Black History Month throughout February with events and activities across all schools that honored history, culture, and community.

At Crete-Monee High School, students and families gathered for the annual program, “The Past is the Present,” featuring a student-led Black History Fair and performances from the jazz band, dance team, show choir, and drama students.

Crete-Monee Middle School students participated in a spirited Battle of the Houses competition, while Talala Elementary in Park Forest welcomed performances from Urban Gateways and the Jesse White Tumblers and created a collaborative quilt honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Students at Monee Elementary and Balmoral Elementary hosted live and wax museums, portraying influential Black leaders and sharing their contributions with visiting families.

Across the district, including Crete Elementary, Coretta Scott King Magnet School in University Park, and the Early Learning Center, students engaged in classroom lessons, art projects, and discussions celebrating Black history and identity.

District leaders say the celebrations reflect Crete-Monee’s ongoing commitment to honoring diverse voices and inspiring future generations.
