The Crete-Monee School District 201-U Board of Education has selected Dr. Tanisha Cannon as the district's next superintendent. The board approved her appointment at its August 4 meeting, and she will officially begin serving in the role on July 1, 2027.

Dr. Cannon will succeed Superintendent Dr. Kara Coglianese, who will retire at the conclusion of the 2026-27 school year after 10 years of dedicated service to the district. Throughout the upcoming school year, Dr. Cannon and Dr. Coglianese will work together to provide a smooth leadership transition.

Currently serving as deputy superintendent of schools for Joliet Public Schools District 86, Dr. Cannon brings more than 20 years of experience in education. Her career has included leadership roles in classroom instruction, special education, student services, school administration, and district leadership.

Prior to her current position, Dr. Cannon served in Joliet Public Schools District 86 as deputy superintendent for equity and student services and assistant superintendent for student services. Throughout her career, she has led strategic planning initiatives, strengthened leadership capacity, and implemented systems focused on continuous improvement. Her work has also centered on advancing student achievement and educational equity, strengthening restorative practices, and using data to guide decision-making.

Dr. Cannon's education includes a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of St. Francis, a general administration licensure from Concordia University, and a master’s degree in education from Aquinas College.

The Board of Education looks forward to introducing Dr. Cannon to the school community throughout the coming year as she prepares to assume the superintendent role in July 2027.
