BPAC Hosts Dr. Ferney Ramirez for ELL Parent Presentation on Supporting the Vital Roles Parents Play in Their Children's Lives
On March 3, 2025, our Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) hosted a virtual presentation for ELL parents, with 17 parents and five staff members in attendance. Dr. Ferney Ramirez, a respected psychologist and coordinator of bilingual parent-education programs, presented positive parenting techniques. Parents were actively engaged, discussing ways to support their children's success. They participated by answering questions and responding to prompts from Dr. Ramirez. This presentation is part of a series, with this being our first session of hopefully more.
One parent asked, "If we are speaking to a child and correcting them with love, what should we do if the child isn’t understanding?" Dr. Ramirez provided thoughtful advice, helping parents navigate these challenges.
After the session, one parent commented, "I was impressed; it was such an interesting topic, and I hope we can have him back for more presentations." Another parent shared, "The most interesting part was recognizing that we’re not always perfect as parents, but it's important to learn how to correct and teach discipline with love and respect to foster strong self-esteem in our children."
