Dr. Kara speaks to new hires at orientation

Crete-Monee 201-U hosted its annual new hire orientation from August 11 to 13. The three-day event started on Monday with breakfast, warm welcomes, and introductions from district leadership, who emphasized the district's commitment to fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment.

Superintendent Dr. Kara Coglianese excitedly affirmed the group, saying, “We know you’ve landed in a good place. We hope that you enjoy a long and fulfilling career here—all the way to retirement.”

For the second year in a row, the icebreaker activity, a lively game of Never Have I Ever, sparked laughter and camaraderie. One memorable moment came when a new hire shared a humorous story about accidentally falling asleep during a break at work and missing her shift.

The orientation was designed to equip new hires with the essential tools, resources, and knowledge needed to start their roles with confidence and clarity. Highlights included:

  • Technology Set-Up and Training: New hires received guidance on configuring their devices, accessing the district’s network and new staff intranet, and using key software.
Mastering Google Suite: Instruction was provided on how to effectively use Google Drive, Google Classroom, and other vital tools, which are crucial for communication and collaboration within the district.
  • Navigating Business Payroll: An introduction to the payroll platform was given, covering how to access pay stubs and update personal information.
Department of Personnel & Culture overview: New hires were introduced to the team and learned about benefits, time off policies, retirement options, continuing education opportunities, and pay scale.
  • The Office of Teaching and Learning: Provided an overview of the Strategic Plan, PLCs, assessments, ELL, MTSS, and Special Education.

Day two focused on training led by the Office of Teaching Learning, covering priority standards, assessments, curriculum management and instruction, technology integration, professional development, and mentoring. The district attorney presented on key legal topics, and Technology discussed navigating Skyward Educator Access, including attendance, the gradebook, and adding assignments.

On the third and final day, staff members spent time in their school buildings to get acclimated to their new environments and colleagues.
