Dear Families,
This month, we have been celebrating Black History Month in the Crete-Monee School District 201-U. In each of our buildings, our students and staff are taking part in activities that highlight African Americans' contributions and outstanding accomplishments in U.S. history.
As Booker T. Washington once said, “We all should rise above the clouds of ignorance, narrowness, and selfishness.” By celebrating Black History Month, we can recognize the often-overlooked achievements of African Americans and honor their contributions to art, literature, science, technology, politics, and countless other fields.
This month also offers an opportunity to promote cultural awareness and understanding among our students. When we recognize and celebrate the history and culture of African Americans, we help to build bridges between communities and promote a more inclusive school environment. This leads to greater empathy and understanding that can positively impact our entire community.
Keep an eye on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and your child's school website for updates and news about the activities happening in their building. We hope you join us in observing Black History Month!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kara Coglianese
Superintendent
