Each year, Crete-Monee School District 201U schools participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The survey is open February 3 - March 13th. It is designed to collect important information on school climate and learning conditions by assessing performance on five indicators or “Essentials” for school improvement. These include:

• Effective Leaders: The principal works with teachers to implement a clear and strategic vision for school success.
  
• Collaborative Teachers: Teachers collaborate to promote professional growth.
  
• Involved Families: The entire school staff builds strong relationships with families and communities to support learning.
  
• Supportive Environment: The school is safe and orderly. Teachers have high expectations for students and support students to realize their goals. Classmates also support one another.
  
• Ambitious Instruction: Classes are academically demanding and engage students by emphasizing the application of knowledge.
  

The survey results are reported on the annual Illinois School Report Cards that are available to the public at the end of October each year. The results from this year’s survey will be included on the Crete-Monee School District’s school report cards in October 2026.

All district parents, prekindergarten through 12th-grade teachers, and all fourth- through 12th-grade students are encouraged to take the survey. The survey may be completed by going to https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. Please select the appropriate survey. Please note that all survey information is confidential and responses will not be connected to any individual parent or student. Each school in the district must have 20% of parents participate for the parent survey information to be included on the school report card.

For schools, 50% of eligible students must participate for the student results to be included on the school report card. Schools will make arrangements for Grade 4-12 students to complete the survey during the school day. If parents do not want their child to participate in the survey, they will receive an opt-out form to complete and return to the school. We encourage student participation as student input is extremely valuable in helping us improve our schools.
