Tech Respect FAQs for Parents and Students
Q: How many times can students check out a loaner Chromebook?
A: If a student forgets their Chromebook or it is not fully charged, they may check out a loaner Chromebook.
For elementary and middle school students, loaner Chromebooks may be checked out 3 times per
trimester. Loaner Chromebooks may be checked out 5 times per semester for high school students. Loaner
Chromebooks must be returned at the end of each school day.
Q: What happens if students reach their loaner Chromebook limit?
A: Once the limit is reached, students will no longer be allowed to check out a loaner Chromebook for the
grading period. Students are still responsible for all classes and homework.
Q: What happens if students lose or misplace their Chromebook?
A: Missing/lost Chromebooks must be immediately reported to the building Loaner Liaison and/or building
designee. An IT staff will disable the device so it cannot be used. After 5 days, if the device is not located,
student accounts will be charged $250.00, and a new device will be issued. Parents will be notified prior to
the charge being added to the students account.
Q: My Chromebook is broken. What should I do?
A: Grades K-5: Report broken Chromebooks to the building Loaner Liaison immediately.
Grades 6-12: Report broken Chromebooks to the building IT staff member during the hours that are
designated for students.
For all grades, if a Chromebook is broken, IT staff may issue a loaner Chromebook if necessary. IT staff may
issue a loaner Chromebook if the device must be sent out for repair. This will not count towards a student’s
loaner Chromebook total. Chromebooks that are intentionally damaged will be subject to additional charges.
Q: How will students/parents be notified when their loaner Chromebook limit is reached?
A: Students will be informed when they have 1 or no loaner opportunities left during the checkout process.
Students will receive an email with tips to remember to bring their charged Chromebook each day. The
parent will also be notified when their student reaches their limit.
Q: I lost my Chromebook Charger. How can I get a replacement?
A: If available, replacement chargers are available in the main office. The cost is $25.00. Students are able
to purchase up to 2 replacement chargers per school year. The cost of the charger will be added to the
student's account. Parents have the option to “opt out” by completing the Chromebook Replacement
Charger Opt Out Google Form. Submission of this Google Form will ensure that their student will not receive
a replacement charger.
Q: I forgot to return my loaner Chromebook at the end of the school day. What should I do?
A: Loaner Chromebooks that are not returned each day will be disabled. Students should return the device
immediately upon their return to school. Students who chronically do not return loaner devices may be
banned from participating in the Chromebook Loaner program.
Q: When can I check out a loaner Chromebook?
A: If a student is in need of a loaner Chromebook, they should be checked out first thing in the morning.
Loaner devices may not be available throughout the course of the school day.
