School Safety Alert: Building Evacuation

Dear Parents,

Today, August 23, 2024, at 11:15 a.m., our school, Crete Elementary, initiated a building evacuation. A staff member detected a gas odor, which alerted the administration to call the Crete Fire Department. The Crete Fire Department and Ambulance Services arrived on campus.

During the Evacuation Event, students and staff evacuated the building using primary and/or secondary exits. Designated staff checked the building to ensure all occupants have exited and recorded the start and end of the drill. While outside, students and staff report to designated areas for attendance away from the building to allow for proper distance and emergency responder access. Also, during this time, no one is allowed in or out of the building. All entrances and exits are temporarily closed to all visitors, students, and staff until the safety alert is lifted. Students and staff will remain outside in their designated areas until they are given the all-clear from the Crete Fire Department.

For your child’s safety, please refrain from arriving on the scene at the building until an all-clear is given. As always, the safety of our staff and students is our highest priority.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Prado
Crete Elementary Principal
