While certain parts of the 201-U campus were quieter during summer break, construction projects pushed forward to upgrade our buildings and facilities. From building improvements to parking lot repaving, from steady progress on the sportsplex to major building renovations—this summer wasn’t a break for everyone; it was a launchpad for the years ahead.
Take a look at what we accomplished—and how it sets the stage for the year ahead:
Crete Elementary School
The roof replacement, completed between June 9 and August 13, improves both the safety and energy efficiency of the building for students and staff.
Crete-Monee Middle School
Construction to remove the existing amphitheater began on July 14. The space is being reconfigured into a two-level area that will feature five classrooms, scheduled to open in August 2026. Four small-group work areas near the former amphitheater will be completed this summer.
Crete-Monee High School
Parking lot renovations began on June 9, with phased milling and repaving of the existing lots. These much-needed improvements replace aging pavement, enhance traffic flow, and bring new life to the campus.
Meanwhile, the new sportsplex is making great progress. Over the summer, work continued on the locker rooms and concession stands, while the baseball and softball fields took shape and the multisport field neared completion.
At the July 15 Board of Education meeting, it was officially approved to name the Crete-Monee High School softball field Coach “G” Softball Field in honor of Sue Giannantonio. Coach G’s long-standing dedication to CMHS, her leadership, and her lasting impact on the softball program have shaped generations of student-athletes. This well-deserved recognition celebrates her passion, commitment, and the legacy she leaves—both on and off the field.
Turf for the football field was installed the week of July 14. The multisport stadium remains on track for completion by the end of August—just in time for our first home football game on September 12, which will include a special dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The softball and baseball fields are projected for completion in December, right on schedule for the spring sports season.
SmartLab at Monee Elementary
A third SmartLab is coming to the district—this time at Monee Elementary! Thanks to funding from the Campos Foundation in Denver, Colorado, we’re adding a K–5 HQ Explorer SmartLab, complete with design, production, and installation.
Once all requirements under Board Policy 4:150 are met, the space will be officially named the Campos SmartLab at Monee Elementary. Christine Quinlan and Garridan Mitchell will serve as facilitators for Balmoral, Monee, and Talala.
These summer projects are investments in our students, staff, and community. By upgrading facilities, expanding learning spaces, and enhancing our sports complex, we’re building a stronger foundation for the future. As the new school year begins, the impact of this work will be felt across 201-U.
