The buzz of excitement was electric on August 19 th as Crete-Monee School District 201-U staff kicked off the new school year! The CMHS NJROTC cadets, cheerleaders, band, and color guard led a dynamic welcome that set the tone for a fun-filled day full of energy and enthusiasm. The staff began the day with breakfast and photo booth sessions with quirky back-to-school props. Our new wellness providers were available to showcase their incredible programs and opportunities at tables.
The excitement continued in the auditorium as Dr. Eric Melnyczenko warmly welcomed all new and returning staff. Board President Maurice Brown fired up the crowd with a powerful reminder to positively impact and make a difference in students’ lives. Dr. Kara Coglianese, Superintendent, celebrated our summer achievements—from special events and summer school to building construction and the National Educators Rising Conference. She then unveiled our new strategic plan, charting the exciting path ahead for the district.
Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Ghantel Perkins introduced the keynote speaker, Cassandra Erkens from Solution Tree, who inspired the entire auditorium with insights on fostering a collaborative culture – working together as professionals to enhance student success.
The energy didn’t stop there! Everyone moved to the gymnasium to honor incredible staff members for their years of dedicated service at the ‘U’. From 5 to 35 years, each milestone was celebrated with pride. Their dedication and hard work are truly appreciated and remarkable.
The highlight of the day was Crete-Monee’s second annual Unity Games—a thrilling trivia and challenge showdown between school buildings. The reigning champions, Balmoral Elementary, were on the edge of their seats as they defended their title. The competition was fierce, with challenges involving drinking water and water cup flipping, oreo balancing, and intense trivia questions. It all came down to a nail-biting tie between the Early Learning Center and Crete- Monee Middle School.
In a dramatic Family Feud-style tie-breaker, the Early Learning Center buzzed in first with the correct answer about our strategic plan, claiming victory! Director Kelly Chesta took the stage to proudly accept the championship belt and rally everyone for an incredible school year ahead. Even though this was a competition, the ‘U’ came together, supporting one another.
Here’s to a fantastic 2024-2025 school year at Crete-Monee School District 201-U filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and achievement!
