CM201-U partners with GSU
Crete-Monee School District 201-U partners with Governors State University for College Pathways Program
Program provides a bridge for Crete-Monee High School students
to attend and succeed in college

CM 201-U Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction Laura Hirsh and CMHS Principal Marjorie Triche (seated) share a smile after signing the historic College Pathways partnership agreement at Governors State University (GSU) this month. The program is expected to bridge the gap for Crete-Monee High School students to attend and succeed in college. They are joined by GSU Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Elizabeth Cada, Dr. Aurelio Valente, GSU Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Ms. Kristy Goodwin, GSU Director of College Pathways, and Mrs. Lisa Haley-Miller, CMHS Assistant Principal.

The program will expand GSU’s Dual Degree Program-Male Success Initiative (DDP-MSI), largely funded by The Kresge Foundation, that guides students of color from community colleges to four-year university graduation. The College Pathways Program will focus on bringing CMHS students to GSU. “We are so excited about this partnership,” Asst. Supt. Hirsch said. “A family living in the Crete-Monee community now knows there is a seamless path for their child from high school to higher education,” she added. CMHS graduate Justin Smith – a member of GSU’s inaugural freshman class – has proven to be a shining example of the program’s potential. Last year, he was named a 2017 Lincoln Laureate by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

“Justin exemplifies what we hope to multiply,” said Dr. Valente.
