Welcome Letter
Superintendent CunninghamNathaniel Cunningham, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools

Dear Crete-Monee Staff, Parents and Community Partners,

It is my honor to introduce myself as the new Superintendent of Crete-Monee School District 201-U. I am very excited and feel privileged to have been selected to the office.

My family and I are delighted to move here and become a part of the Crete-Monee school community. Over the past week, I have spent time getting to know buildings, the community and the staff. My focused intention from my first day forward is to listen and then to provide the leadership and support necessary to earn your trust. I believe that with strong connections and commitment, together, we can develop the whole child and create an effective learning environment for both our students and staff members.

I would also like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about me. I am a second-generation educator; my father was a high school Spanish teacher and my mother was the principal’s secretary. I am a husband and father. My wife Carla and I have two boys. My oldest, Trey, is currently a graduate student at Illinois State University. My youngest, Aushlon, will enter Crete-Monee High School as a freshman in the fall. My wife and I agree that our boys, while far from perfect, are really good people. I tell you this because my experiences as a father have helped to shape my perspective as an educator and have prepared me for the wonderful opportunity to lead this school district.

Professionally, I have been the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for McLean County Unit District in Normal, Illinois for the past 5 years. I know that to achieve our goal of creating the professional learning community we all desire will require collaboration and commitment from our school board, administration, teachers, staff and students.

Crete-Monee School District is known not only for its extracurricular programs, but also for the positive and healthy relationships between staff and students. I take very seriously that our parents have entrusted the young people of this community to our care and expect our fine staff to give their best, day in and day out. I have no doubt that they have and will continue to do so.

My mission as your Superintendent is to maintain and grow a rigorous teaching and learning environment that provides every student with a sense of belonging; while helping students to grow intellectually, emotionally and socially. For me, it is critical to every student’s success that they graduate from high school… prepared for both the workplace and post-secondary education with the habits of mind and skills necessary to pursue and achieve their goals and dreams. I am eager to contribute to these efforts and look forward to building great new personal and professional relationships of and about learning.

Educationally yours,

Nathaniel Cunningham, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools
