Board of Education considers new process for review and adoption of school board policy

board-graphic.jpgDistrict administration has recommended a new process for updating school board policies. Assistant Superintendent of Student Affairs Dr. Monica Spence outlined the process at the October board meeting that includes a timeline for review and monitoring of policies and technology for communicating policies to the public.

The new board policy review features the following 5 Components of Policy Making:

An important addition to the new board policy review process is the feedback portion available to the public. Parents may now submit their issues, concerns or suggestions about a specific policy via email at . Feedback received will be forwarded and reviewed by the Policy Committee.

“We not only want parents to understand how policies are reviewed and adopted but to feel as if they are a part of this process. We think this new model will allow us to effectively review, monitor and communicate all school board policies with our stakeholders,” said Board Secretary and Policy Chair Kimberly Sanders.

The New Policy Review Process


The new process includes (4) steps:
  1. First Review - (Policy Committee Meeting)
  2. First Reading - (Board Meeting)
  3. Second Review - (Policy Committee Meeting)
  4. Second Reading (Approval) – (Board Meeting)
