Crete-Monee School District services six communities, totaling approximately eighty square miles. Throughout the course of the year the district will transport approximately 5,400 students. This service is contracted out through a local company – First Student Bus Company. They provide the district with over 100 bus routes throughout the course of any given school day. During the school year, buses will travel over 1.5 million miles to transport our students. Illinois law requires transportation of students living over a mile and a half from the school they attend. State law also allows for students to walk up to one and a half miles to their designated stop; however, the district tries to be more accommodating.
Bus Route Information
Bus route information will be mailed via US Mail to all district families one week prior to the start of school. This information will also be posted to the homepage of the district website.
Daycare Transportation Services
The State of Illinois mandates districts to transport students to and from school who reside over one and one-half miles from their school. If a student attends a daycare facility or if a student needs to be transported from a place other than his or her residence, parents/guardians must fill out a Daycare Transportation Request Form
and return it to 1500 S Sangamon St, Crete, IL 60417. There is a Five-Mile Daycare Policy
in effect for students who attend Balmoral, Crete, Monee, and Talala Elementary. It is stated that the facility must be over one and one-half miles but not more than five miles from school and along an existing route for that particular school.
Students who do not have a Daycare Transportation Request Form on file, will be picked up at a stop based on their home address.
A new Daycare Transportation Request form must be filled out at the beginning of each school year, even if the daycare remains the same. If a parent/guardian changes facilities during the year, a new form must be filled out, signed, and sent to the district office.
