Guiding Questions for Problem Identification
What is the Problem and is it Significant?
What is the problem, what does it look like?
Is this an individual or a group problem?
Is this problem significant (i.e. as compared to peers, classrooms, and staff)?
Guiding Questions for Problem Analysis
What strengths can be identified?
When and where does the problem occur or not occur?
What additional information is needed?
If it is behavioral, is there a need (function) being met by this behavior?
What is the hypothesis based on data for why this problem is occurring?
Guiding Questions for Plan Development
What specific instruction or intervention would address the identified problem?
Will this instruction or intervention meet the needs of the individual or group?
How, when, where and by whom will the instruction/intervention be implemented and
progress monitored? How will intervention implementation be monitored? How will adequate progress be defined?
Guiding Questions for Plan Evaluation
Based on progress monitoring data, has adequate progress been made?
Has the intervention been implemented with fidelity?
Does the problem continue to be significant?
Should the specific instruction or intervention be continued?
Are changes or modifications required?
(If evaluation component indicates intervention has not been effective, return to step 1.)
