District 201-U Communication Plan

District 201-U takes very seriously the challenge of being an organization that consistently delivers accurate, clear and timely communication. Our organization has developed principles that guide us as we carefully plan to meet the needs of our stakeholders in terms of their need for information. Adobe PDF A Guide to Better Communication

The Communications Department has implemented the following conventions within the organization to increase organizational knowledge, information and collaboration among all stakeholders.

  1. Website: Our website was upgraded in July of 2010 and has many features such as an electronic district calendar for parents, a staff directory, photo albums, on-demand video, archived community news, the ability to pay fees online, survey capabilities, online forum participation, and is filled with lots of pertinent information from each district department and school.
  2. Staff Bulletin: The Staff Bulletin is published monthly to staff and is sent via email. This medium is only for announcing important information or events; it is not meant to give detailed story or background information.
  3. E-Newsletter-Key Communicator:  The Key Communicator is published once a month to staff and any parent or community member that subscribes to receiving the newsletter.
  4. Virtual Backpack Program: The Virtual Backpack program is a program designed to save money on the paper production of community flyers and announcements. It also allows community members to post announcements concerning community events that would be appropriate for our students or parents to be informed of. Parents or community members who register through the district website's Notify Me Module will receive email alerts when this page is updated.
  5. SchoolMessenger Notification System: This digital mass notification system is used to send messages to staff and families via telephone, email, and text in a matter of minutes.
  6. Social Media: The district utilizes Facebook and Twitter to communicate with district stakeholders in realtime.
  7. Staff Intranet: This is a password-protected section of the website for District 201-U employees which contains confidential information, departmental forms, and important announcements for our staff.
  8. Annual Parent Survey: We want to continually seek input from our parents as to their satisfaction with their schools and district services. This survey will be given out each November during parent teacher conferences.
  9. Annual Staff Survey: We would like to continually measure staff satisfaction with their schools by administering an annual online survey in the spring of each year.
  10. Traditional Mailings or Flyers: Information from time to time will still be sent home by students or will be mailed home when it is most appropriate to use this method of communication.
  11. School Improvement Teams: School improvement teams will be a forum for staff to have voice in matters related to school climate, school morale, and issues related to student achievement.
  12. Monthly Management Meetings: Once a month the principal of each building should meet with representatives of employee association groups to discuss matters related to efficient operations, communication, policies, procedures and possible union issues.
