Welcome Monee Elementary Families,
On behalf of our Monee Elementary Staff, I would like to welcome all our families, new and returning, to our Monee Elementary Family. It is our pleasure to be able to work with all of you for a successful learning experience for your children. School and family relationships are an integral part of every child’s success.
Monee Elementary is the largest elementary building in our district. We currently have three sections of each grade level, Kindergarten through Fifth Grade and three Cross Categorical classrooms. We work closely in grade level teams, sharing lessons, discussing student data, and creating effective instruction. It is our intent to move each of our students forward academically utilizing a variety of teaching methods and engaging our students in higher level learning.
We continue our focus on Common Core Standards, leading our students to think more of the “why” and “how”, the process and steps needed to reach the outcome, not just knowing the correct answer. We assess our students multiple times throughout the course of the school year, benchmarking our students in reading and math minimally each trimester. PARCC remains our state assessment in reading and math for grades 3-5, with the addition of science in grade 5, which occurs in March and April. We also use the MAP assessment in reading and math for all students in grades K-5 and that is given in September, January, and May. Individual literacy assessments are given in September, January, and May. AIMSweb testing is used to progress monitor our students who are receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
We continue to focus on math facts. It is imperative that students know their math facts in order to be successful in problem solving. Student progress is monitored throughout the year. Our theme is currently “Math Facts Here, Math Facts There, Math Facts Everywhere” keeping in line with our Dr. Seuss theme.
Monee Elementary also has a strong climate program, outlined in our Climate Program plan that you received during curriculum night along with our district Elementary Student Handbook. Please refer to these resources for procedures, expectations, positive incentives, and more. We look forward to a wonderful school year and working together with you. We want to celebrate our students’ successes and praise them for the effort they put forth everyday. Together we can make a difference for our children!
