Early identification of potential learning problems is the goal of the preschool screening process. If potential problems are identified before a child enters kindergarten, appropriate steps can be taken to facilitate the child’s educational development. Various program options are available for students with needs. Preschool screening evaluates a child’s skills in the areas of communication (speech and language), fine motor, gross motor, and concept knowledge; and includes a vision and hearing screening. Each parent also provides information to help determine the child’s social development and to review any areas of parental concern.
Parents may also contact the Early Learning Center to register for the next DIAL Screening which will be held on Tuesday, March 1st and Wednesday, March 2nd at the Early Learning Center (1500 Sangamon Street, Crete). Children must be at least three years old at the time of the screening and not of kindergarten age by September 2011. To learn about the screening process or to register for an appointment, please contact Lee Ann Knapp at the Early Learning Center Office at (708) 367-2770.
