CMMS science teacher receives MSI Distinguished Teacher Award from the Museum of Science & Industry

PTO Meeting Minutes

Monday, April 4, 2011

 

Members Present: Jessica Johnson, Sara Meadows, Shelly Porpora, Natalie Watts,  Jeannie Groen, Paul Kovacevich,  Tammi Winter, Jen Gasbarro and Dawn Hawkins.


I.              Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Jessica Johnson at 6:33 p.m.

II.           Approval of Minutes

The minutes from March were approved.

III.             Director’s Report

Mr. Paul Kovacevich-

Mr. K. thanked the PTO for helping with Grandparent/Special Person’s Day.  It went really well and the grandparents enjoyed the power point slideshow.

 

 The Board presentation and parent workshop both went well.

 

 The ELC will be applying for one grant this year.  The deadline is April 14th.  We are expecting that the ELC will get the grant, but there is always the chance of budget cuts.  Mr. K. is in the process of writing this.

 

State Accountability Monitoring Visit- Every class will be visited by the state for the full 2 ½ hours.  The state will be looking at files, eligibility, screening, etc. and schools will be rated in many different areas.  This should take place within the two week window of 4/11-4/21. 

 

IV.               Board Member Reports

 President-Jessica Johnson

Thanked the volunteers that helped for Grandparent’s Day.  We need volunteers for picture day on 4/15, Cinco de Mayo, and Field Day.

 

Vice President- Jeannie Groen- No report.

 

Secretary-  Sara Meadows – No report

 

Treasurer- Shelly Porpora- reported that the checking account balance is $5,604.48.

 

Faculty Representative- Tammi Winter- Will be participating in the Autism walk.  The PTO wrote a check for our donation.

 

V.         Chairperson Report

Fundraising-  Little Caesar’s will be sold from 5/2/5/11.  It will be delivered the week of May 23rd.

 

 

VI.       Old Business

 

 

VII.          New Business-

Field Day will be Friday, May 20, 2011. We picked out medals as a prize again this year.  Snack will be cheese-its and pretzels as a backup for students who have milk allergies.  We will also buy Capri suns for the drink.  The classes will have different color T-shirts again this year.  The PTO will buy students and Mr. K. will buy staff and volunteer shirts.  The volunteers and Mr. K. will have baby blue shirts.

 

We discussed some options for Teacher Appreciation week- May 2-6th.

 

We reviewed board positions and nominations.  We discussed the four open jobs- President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.  Next month we will be voting for these positions.

 

We discussed the possibility of a family pasta night in May.

 

 

VIII.             Upcoming Dates

4/14 & 4/15- Kindergarten Registration

4/22- No School

5/2- PTO Meeting- Elections

5/11 Spring Sing, High School 6:30

5/20- Field Day
