PTO Meeting Minutes

Monday, February 9, 2011

 

Members Present: Jessica Johnson, Sara Meadows, Shelly Porpora, Robert Watts,  Jeannie Groen, Paul Kovacevich, Jen Neri, Tammi Winter, Dawn Hawkins and Sara Savicz.


I.              Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Jessica Johnson at 6:35 p.m.

II.           Approval of Minutes

The minutes from January were approved.

III.             Director’s Report

Mr. Paul Kovacevich-

Mr. K. mentioned that the Valentine parties were February 14 at 9:30 and 1:00.  He also thanked Ms. Winter for helping with the organization of Science night.  It was a huge success.  The next family night is a Dave Rudolph beach concert.  

 

We also discussed the new security system for the district.  Parents who work with small groups of students will need to have background checks.

 

IV.               Board Member Reports

 President-Jessica Johnson

No Report

 

Vice President- Jeannie Groen- Jeannie added a Family Night link to the website.

 

Secretary-  Sara Meadows – No report

 

Treasurer- Shelly Porpora- reported that the checking account balance is $5,400.01.

 

Faculty Representative- Tammi Winter- Discussed the Challenging Behavior seminar that will be coming in March.  Shelia from Star net will be presenting and childcare will be provided. 

 

V.         Chairperson Report

Fundraising- 

The Fuddruckers Night will be coming up on the 23rd from 1-9 at the Matteson location. Flyers will be sent home soon and you will need to bring it with you to earn the profit for the ELC.   

We discussed other fundraiser ideas and Jessica passed around several different options.  We decided on the personalized items and candles from Personalized Creations and Celebrating Home.

 

Book Fair-

To promote reading and the book fair, Mr. K. will read to each classroom.  Teachers will make a wish list for their classrooms again.

 

 

VI.       Old Business

The ELC is hosting a Dave Rudolph beach concert on February 9, 2011 for Family Night.

 

The ELC PTO is looking for ideas and planning to host an assembly for the students.  Teachers will look into some ideas as well.  Crete park district may have some options.

 

VII.          New Business-

Grandparents/Special Person’s Day will be Thursday, March 24, 2011.  The PTO will purchase the cookies and punch.  The teachers will organize the activity.  Since many grandparents don’t know the name of their grandchild’s teacher, we will try to develop a master class list off all students and teachers.  A slide show will also be playing during the reception part of the program.  Teachers may also decorate with art work that the students made.  Jess will type up the invite and Mr. K. will secure a wheelchair.

 

Field Day will be Friday, May 20, 2011.We will pick out medals as a prize again this year.  Snack will be cheese-its and pretzels as a backup for students who have milk allergies.  We will also buy Capri suns for the drink.

 

Spirit Wear- Everything will be kept the same for the second sale.  Shelly will get the flyer ready for this event.

 

Library- Book check out has been inconsistent because often there in not a librarian there to check out books.
