CMMS science teacher receives MSI Distinguished Teacher Award from the Museum of Science & Industry

PTO Meeting Minutes

Monday December 6, 2010


Members Present:  Jessica Johnson, Jeannie Groen, Shelly Porpora, Paul Kovacevich, Tammi Winter, Jennifer Gasbarro, and Dawn Hawkins.

I. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Jessica Johnson at 6:34 pm.



II. Approval of Minutes

The minutes from November were approved.



III. Director's Report - Mr. Paul Kovacevich

Thanks to all who helped with the float for the parade.

The Winter Performance time for the AM class was changed to 9:30am. The pm classes performance will be at 1:00pm. Help is needed to decorate for the performance on December 17th.

Santa will be coming to see the students on Tuesday December 21st, and the holiday parties are scheduled for Wednesday December 22nd at 9:30am for the am classes and 1:00pm for the pm classes.

The book fair is scheduled for February.



IV. Board Member Reports

President- Jessica Johnson

Thanks to everyone who worked on the Trees for Trees Around the District and for everything else that was done in the month of November. Also, a thanks to all who helped with the parade.



Vice President- Jeannie Groen

Recycling/paper drive will be advertised with Family Night and the Winter performance for parents to bring in there paper. The recycle bins will be moved inside to make it easier for families to partake in the paper drive.



Secretary- No report



Treasurer- Shelly Porpora

Current balance in the checking account is $5,583.01. The PTO made just under $1300 for the Walk-A-Thon. Trees Around the District made $309.



Faculty Representative- Tammi Winter

 Thanks to everyone who helped out with the Thanksgiving Feast. Dave Rudolph is scheduled to come at the early part of 2011.



V. Chairperson Report

Fundraising: McDonalds- Awaiting the totals.

            SCRIP Cards- Talked about whether to start this program. Agreed to try it out starting January 11, 2011 and will reevaluate after one year.

            Canned Food Drive- Currently going on.



Book Fair: Will run from 2/7-2/11. Volunteers needed.



Recycling: Ways to make it easier for families to partake in the school recycling program mentioned in the VP report.



Field Day: Tentative date of May 20th. Jessica to check if that day will work.



VI. Old Business

Thanks again to all who helped with the Trees Around the District and the Walk-A-Thon.



VII. New Business

Staff Holiday Luncheon- Scheduled for Tuesday December 21st. Will decide the menu later.



Winter Assembly- Talked about options. Will discuss more at a later date.



Mr. Paul Kovacevich mentioned the 10% reduction of the grant the school received for this year. He brought to attention the schools need to write a complete grant proposal for the next school year. Grants for next year will be administered in an all or none fashion. The school will not know until the summer if the school will have a grant for next school year.



VIII. Upcoming Events

Tuesday, Dec. 7- PM attends

Wednesday, Dec. 8- Family Night at 6:30pm

Monday, Dec. 20- Holiday concert (AM 9:30am) (PM 1:00pm)

Thursday, Dec. 23- Holiday break begins. School resumes Thursday January 6th.

Monday, Jan. 10- PTO Meeting 6:30pm

Thursday, March 24- Grandparent's Day



IX. Adjournment- Jessica adjourned the meeting at 7:55pm.
