CMMS science teacher receives MSI Distinguished Teacher Award from the Museum of Science & Industry

PTO Meeting Minutes

Monday, November 1, 2010

 

Members Present: Jessica Johnson, Sara Meadows, Shelly Porpora, Robert Watts,  Jeannie Groen, Paul Kovacevich, Jen Neri, Tammi Winter, Lynn Spelde, Dawn Hawkins, Wendy Phillips, Sara Savicz.


I.              Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Jessica Johnson at 6:35 p.m.

II.           Approval of Minutes

The minutes from September were approved.

III.             Director’s Report

Mr. Paul Kovacevich-

Mr. K. sent out a voicereach this evening to remind parents of the parent workshop on nutrition this Wednesday from 6-7.

Overall there was some disappointment with the turnout from curriculum night. The staff is trying think of other ways to increase attendance.

 

IV.               Board Member Reports

 President-Jessica Johnson

Thanked everyone for the spirit wear orders, apples fundraiser, picture day volunteers and room parents!

Picture day ran a little slow. Friday the 19th is the picture retakes.

 

Vice President- Jeannie Groen- No report

 

Secretary-  Sara Meadows – No report

 

Treasurer- Shelly Porpora-  reported that the checking account balance is $5,292.85. We had an income of $23.90 this month. We also filed for a tax exempt number and will receive that soon.

 

Faculty Representative- Tammi Winter-  asked if we need help decorating the trees for trees around the district. PTO could use help Nov. 9th at 6:00pm. We also need more decorations for the trees.

Discussed the upcoming Thanksgiving Feast which will be on Nov.23rd. We will need volunteers for this event.

 

V.         Chairperson Report

Fundraising- 

McDonalds- 11/17 from 5-8 at the Crete location. You need to bring the flyer to McDonalds in order for the ELC to receive any funds. We need (2) volunteers per hour for this event. We may consider dropping off flyers at local business to increase funds.

Spirit Wear – Should be coming home Thursday.

Sunny Delight- If each class collects 20 labels, they will receive 20 free books.  In order to receive the free books, orders must be postmark by Nov. 20th.

 

Book Fair- It will run from 11/8-11/11 and 2/7-2/11. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!!

 

Recycling - If we don’t start collecting more paper the recycle bin will be taken away.

VII.       Old Business

Bylaws-Shelly motioned to accept bylaws, Jeanie second, all were in favor.

Website is up to date, Jeanie did a nice job updating!

 

Walk-a-thon- PTO is promoting a walk-a-thon to raise money and promote exercise to battle childhood obesity and promote a healthy lifestyle.  The date is set for Friday, November 5, 2010 at Heritage Park.  The students will walk one lap around Heritage Park and stop at the four stations for 10 minutes each for an activity:

  1. Follow Leo
  1. Dice activity
  1. Ball Station
  1. Races

There will also be a balloon release for all of the students.  They will have snack back at school.  There was some concern that students may not be dressed warm enough for this event.  A flyer will go home Thursday reminding parents to have their child in a winter coat, gloves and hat.

 

We will need help filling balloons with helium this Thursday at 6:00.

 

Trees around the district-The trees are much smaller than last year, but are pre-lit.  Jeanie will make the tree skirts; however we need more decorations.

 

VIII.          New Business-

 

Sunny Delight Book Spree- discussed earlier in minutes.

 

Thanksgiving feast- discussed earlier in minutes.

 

IX.             Upcoming Dates

11/5- Walk-a-thon

11/11 and 11/12- No School due to Parent/Teacher Conferences

11/24-1126- No School- Thanksgiving Holiday

 

X.            Adjournment- Jessica adjourned the meeting at 7:15pm.
