Public School Choice
August 2012
Crete-Monee School District 201U has three elementary schools that have been identified for school improvement under the No Child Left Behind Act. Federal school improvement status means that all three schools have not made adequate yearly progress (AYP) on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) for at least two consecutive years. As required by law, Balmoral, Crete, and Talala Elementary Schools must offer parents Public School Choice and Supplemental Educational Services (SES).
Public School Choice Information
Schools eligible as public school choice sites must meet the following criteria:
- Non-Title I schools must be making AYP
- Title I schools must not be in school improvement status
Our district does not have a school that is an eligible public school choice option site for our students. Coretta Scott King is not a public school choice option for our district because it has an established admissions policy. As required, we have contacted neighboring school district to request that they provide us with schools we can offer as choice sites. No school district has agreed to do so. Therefore, Crete-Monee School District cannot provide parents with the option to transfer schools.
Supplemental Educational Services Information (SES)
SES is an afterschool tutoring program that is provided to low income students. State-approved providers contract with the school district to offer free tutoring services to low income students in schools who are federal improvement status.
Parents of qualifying students will receive an informational letter, a provider selection form, and descriptions of the services provided by each tutoring program. Parents must return a completed provider selection form for their child to participate in this after school tutoring program. In addition, the district will provide parents with an opportunity to find out more about tutoring programs at a Provider Fair that will be scheduled for early October. Please continue to check this website for more information about SES.
