Dear Balmoral Family,
Welcome to Back to School Night 2017! This year marks my 11th year teaching at Balmoral Elementary. I am pleased to continue to be a part of this wonderful community of lifelong learners and look forward to being your scholar’s teacher this year. I’m excited to learn about each and every child in our classroom. A few fun facts about me are; my husband John and I have been married 8 years and have two sons, Gabriel is in 8th grade and Joseph is in 2nd grade at Highland Christian School. This summer we went on a backpacking trip to Isle Royale National Park, where we hiked and survived in the wilderness. My husband and I are also training to run the Chicago marathon this October for World Vision an organization that provides clean drinking water for children in developing nations.
We have a great year of learning ahead of us. One very important aspect of 2nd grade is moving from simple sentence books to longer chapter books. Comprehension is a key component in reading and your child will be stretched to think deeply about many things. Staying focused and performing at their best is critical for your child’s success this year. Practice is the best way for your child’s reading and math abilities to improve this school year. Your scholar will be expected read 30 minutes a day as homework, if you do this you will see a great increase in their reading ability. They will also have a nightly math homework page Monday through Thursday.
Curriculum Night this year will be Tuesday, September 19, 6-7:30pm. I look forward to seeing you there. The best way to reach me is via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns I will address them as soon as possible.
