Welcome Monee Elementary Families,
On behalf of our Monee Elementary Staff, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2016-2017 school year. It is our pleasure to be able to work with all of you for a successful learning experience for your children. School and family relationships are an integral part of every child’s success.
Monee Elementary is the largest elementary building in our district. We currently have three sections of each grade level Kindergarten through fourth grade, four sections in fifth grade, and three cross categorical classrooms. We work closely in grade level teams, sharing lessons, discussing student data, and creating effective instruction. It is our intent to move each of our students forward academically utilizing a variety of teaching methods and engaging our students in higher level learning.
We continue our focus on Common Core Standards, leading our students to think more of the “why” and “how”, the process and steps needed to reach the outcome, not just knowing the correct answer. We will assess our students throughout the course of the school year, benchmarking students in reading and math each trimester. PARCC remains our state assessment in reading and math for grades 3-5, with the addition of science in grade 5, and that will be taken in March this year. We also use the MAP assessment for reading and math for our students in grades 1-5, and that assessment is given in September and January. AIMSweb is used for our Kindergarten students, as well as to progress monitor our students receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 services.
Our math fact focus remains a priority this school year. It is imperative that our students know their math facts in order to be successful in problem solving. Student progress will be monitored throughout the year in all grade levels. Our math theme for this school year is “A Minion Reasons to Love Math Facts”.
All of you will receive a Monee Elementary Climate Program booklet as well as an Elementary Student Handbook on Curriculum Night. Please refer to these resources for procedures, expectations, and positive incentives tied to our PBIS program. Our Social Media Program continues and will be tied to our Character Club initiatives.
We are looking forward to a wonderful school year and working together with you. We want to celebrate our students’ success and praise them for the effort they put forth every day. Together we can make a difference for our children!
