August 24, 2016

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! For many of you, it is a warm welcome back to Balmoral, for other families, it is a brand new educational journey for your scholar. Our staff will continuously work to make sure there are a “Minion” reasons to be part of our Balmoral family as we promote academic success for all!

Our goals consist of providing opportunities for scholars to increase academic performance, attract and retain an outstanding workforce, improve school climate and scholar engagement, and to increase community collaboration. We believe all our scholars deserve a quality education in which their individual needs are met, exceeded and supported.

With ongoing and persistent support from community members, parents, faculty and staff, I have no doubt that this is going to be an amazing year for all, particularly for our scholars! My excitement comes from dreaming of the work we will do with your scholars and the imprint we can collectively have on their academic success. Balmoral Elementary has a kindred spirit and our school community always welcomes you. Your input, feedback, and support are always welcomed and we never turn away a concern you may have.

We are also pleased to welcome the following staff members to our Balmoral family:
*Multi-Needs - Michelle Calderone
*Kindergarten - Toya Campbell
*First Grade - Courtney Anderson
*Second Grade - Laura Fitzpatrick
*Art Teacher- Traci Ores
*Music Teacher - Patrick Moody
*Teacher Assistant - Kim Johnson
*Teacher Assistant - Evelyn Semik

This year we are pleased to have Art and Music classes in our scholars’ weekly schedule. We know these programs are welcomed and our new staff will only compliment our school. Let’s make sure we also welcome and embrace our new scholars and families to Balmoral Elementary as well.

With our school’s aim of having a greater emphasis on improving academic outcomes and high scholar achievement school-wide, Balmoral Elementary will continue to incorporate the core values of this “CLASS”y school: Communication, Leadership, Advocacy, Service, and Success. Using these as our guiding principles, each scholar will be encouraged and supported in working to his/her full potential academically, socially and emotionally.

In order to achieve these things, I have included several ways in which family members of our school community can work together with Balmoral staff:

  • Send your scholar to school every day on time.
  • Make sure your child gets eight hours sleep each night.
  • Establish a routine for studying. Give your child a quiet corner to read and regular time to do homework.
  • Keep in touch with your scholar’s teacher via e-mail, telephone, notes, or letters.
  • Attend school-wide events, classroom events, and conferences.
  • Celebrate your scholar’s success (giving verbal praise), no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work.

I am thrilled to be a part of a school community where family members are visible and actively engaged, as well as an integral component of Balmoral Elementary. I am honored and privileged to lead a dynamic community where teachers and staff cultivate an environment where scholars achieve and believe in themselves and what happens here at Balmoral.

Welcome to what we promise to be an exciting year. I look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 1, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We can hardly wait to have your scholars bright and early for our first day of school on Tuesday, September 6, 2016!

Please enjoy the remaining days of summer and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at 708-367-2500 or
