My name is Ms. Murtaugh. Is started teaching at CMHS in 2016. I teach Instructional Algebra 1, Instructional Geometry, and Instructional Math for Life and I co-teach.
I love to teach. I was very young when I decided to be a teacher. I attended the local community college (South Suburban College) after high school and transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to receive my Bachelors in Education. I taught for 5 years and then stayed home with my own 8 children as I homeschooled them. In 2006, I went back to work as a special education teacher. I learned about behavior analysis and obtained a Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and a Masters in Special education. Three of my own children have autism, Down syndrome and/or significant learning disabilities.
I look forward to coming to my classrooms every day. Each individual student has a story to tell and I encourage them to tell that story as it relates to our lessons.
I work on social skills within my classroom by working with a partner. When we leave high school we may find a job where we may need to communicate with other people. I want our young people to know how to contribute to the team as well as know when it is best to be quiet. I am a strong believer in Positive Behavior and Intervention System (PBIS): Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe…. So we can all be SUCCESSFUL!
