Greetings and Welcome Talala Families,
First, let me introduce myself. I am Derrick Watson and I am the new Administrative Dean at Talala Elementary. Some of you may know me as a former teacher at Crete-Monee High School or most recently, Monee Education Center. I am excited to join the Talala family and looking forward to the upcoming school year.
My wife and I are alums of the CM201-Family. I attended Crete Elementary and my wife attended my new home, Talala Elementary. So, I am very familiar with the Crete-Monee community and I still see a lot of old faces. After I graduated from Crete-Monee High School, class of 1998, I then attended Saint Xavier where I graduated with my degree in Computer Studies. I bounced around from working in Pharmacy and pursuing a career as a Pharmacist to pursuing a Law degree, to attending Nursing School. I wasn’t happy. I then began subbing for the high school and that’s when I found my passion- working with kids.
So, I then went back to school again and I earned my B.A. & my M.S. in Special Education from Indiana University. I began my career in Merrillville, working at Clifford Pierce Middle School; where I waited for the day for an opportunity would come and I could return home o Crete-Monee, which I did in 2008. There, I also was afforded the opportunity to coach wrestling for 7 years and make relationships with a lot of new “family members.” In 2013, I graduated with my M.A. in Education Administration from Olivet University.
This summer, I enjoyed spending time with my beautiful wife Natalie, class of 2001, and my two amazing children, Natalia, 7 and Derrick Jr, 2. I look forward to working with my new Talala families and I am willing to go to all levels to ensure success. Please feel free to contact me anytime at (708)367-2560.
