Greetings to the Monee and University Park Families and Community from Ms. Cole!
I am a veteran teacher with over 20 years of experience. I have taught grades 1st through 6th with most of my years spent in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Fourth graders are at a point in their lives where they begin to see the world outside of their families, begin to test their independence, and yet still need to keep their parents comfortably close by. This is also the time when important habits need to be developed for future success. It is an exciting and emotional time for our children and I feel blessed to be there to guide and watch their growth.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Governor’s State University and completed additional training in Reading Recovery. I have an endorsement in Science as well. (Before I became a teacher, I studied Art at Northern Illinois University and Dental Hygiene at Prairie State College.) History and Math have become my favorite subjects most recently. I’d love to be able to pass along my enthusiasm for all subjects to my students.
I am a proud Mom to my 20 year old daughter, Anna Kira. We enjoy trips to Michigan and watching the antics of our beagle, Roxie. In my spare time I love to swim and read. I enjoy doing most any kind of puzzle as well and am willing to take on anyone at a game of Scrabble.
I look forward to each year. My skills as a teacher improve because I learn from your children every year. Thank you for letting me be a part of your child’s journey!
