My name is Mr. Lenz, and I am proud to serve Crete Monee High School as a Mathematics teacher. I have been an educator since 1991, over 25 years, serving Crete Monee District 201U since 2016. I received my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from DePauw University, in Greencastle, Indiana. I was 5-time letterman, participating in both basketball (4 years) and baseball (1 year). I am a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana, and have taught at 3 different schools, which varied in size and student demographics. I am currently teaching Plane Geometry and Honors Geometry. I have also taught Business Math and Honors Algebra I while at Crete-Monee HS.
My philosophy of education is simple. I believe that every student who enters my classroom can succeed. As a teacher, it is my duty to help students reach their full potential and gain the knowledge and skills that they will require in their daily lives as a democratic citizen of our society. Teaching should be student-centered and students should be accountable for their learning and behavior. In addition, students should take responsibility for their decisions and actions. As a teacher, I will help to facilitate my student’s pursuit for knowledge and help them acquire the communication skills, problem solving skills, and critical thinking skills which will enable them to be life-long learners. I believe students should learn to be independent, yet have the skills necessary to work constructively in a team.
I coach basketball here at Crete-Monee, as an assistant Boys Basketball Coach, helping out with both Varsity and Sophomores. I have coached high school varsity basketball, and have assisted at the college level. I coach summer baseball, for the Morris Chiefs, based in Schererville, Indiana. I have previously coached varsity high school baseball in Indiana, winning Times Coach of the year in 2008.
I am looking forward to another successful year at Crete-Monee!!
