Previous Work Experience:

I began teaching at Crete Elementary in 1992, where I taught six grade for 2 years and first grade for 7 years. I then stayed home with my children for several years before returning to teach here at Coretta Scott King as a part-time reading teacher the first year we opened and as a pre-school teacher and director at the Crete Preschool Coop. I have been teaching for the past three years as a part-time reading resource teacher here at CSK helping students in 1st-3rd grade. I then returned to teaching 1st grade full-time. I am excited to take on the challenge of being CSK's IB / Literacy Coordinator.

Hobbies, Extracurricular Interests:

  • spending time outdoors gardening, hiking, canoeing, and tent/ backpack camping
  • playing piano and enjoying music in general
  • laughing with my children, family, and friends

Favorite Books:
The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran

A Reason for Hope by Jane Goodall
The Lorax, by Dr. Suess – “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

Educational Philosophy:

I believe that learning is an active, never-ending process that should be exciting and fun for all individuals, children and adults alike. “Once you have learned how to ask relevant and appropriate questions, you have learned how to learn, and no one can keep you from learning what you want or need to know.” ~Postman & Weingartner
