Mr. Gatheright

Welcome back to school! I am the English teacher at the Monee Educational Center, and my name is Mr. Gatheright. I taught high school English in Chicago for thirteen years. I am a published author that has a M.A. degree in Psychology. Truly I will bring all of this knowledge into the classroom to help my students thrive in academics and to work through any social-emotional distractions that hinder them from learning. I look forward to helping my students master their skills within the English language by enhancing their writing with a college approach as the goal. Also, by using critical thinking skills to enhance their reading comprehension, and develop the ability to summarize effectively.

My goal is for my students to master the P.E.E.L method in their writing which enables them to firmly establish a point in their written explanation, which is connected by evidence from a text. Once this evidence has been established the students explain how this evidence supports their point. Once this explanation is finalized in the paragraph the students then link their statement back to their original point. Therefore, the P for point, E for evidence, E for explanation, and L is the link that connects back to the point to end the paragraph.

Thank you for entrusting me with this wonderful opportunity and I look forward to meeting all my students’ parents soon.
