7th Grade Read 180 is bringing lessons to life with the help of generous donations!

Students are taking their learning to the next level in Mrs. Garza’s classes!  During October, we completed a workshop on natural disasters.  Students began to connect their learning to the hurricanes that took place this year and they immediately asked how they could get involved.  Over the next two months, Read 180 donated $50.46 to help with Hurricane Harvey relief.  This money was given to Student Council to add to relief funds they are currently collecting.  I’m so proud of their generous efforts!

Our next workshop is about forensic science.  In December, we are looking forward to taking a field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry to complete our own “crime” investigation in the museum’s forensics lab.  We will find fingerprints, examine trace evidence, and explore other forms of forensic science as we try to solve a “crime” assigned to us.  This field trip is possible thanks to a generous donation from our own PTO to help cover field trip costs.  We are so grateful.  More importantly, students are seeing that what goes around, often comes around.  How incredible that right after they chose to give to others in need, they are now being given a gift of their own!
